Front Street Reopens August 1
Beginning Aug. 1, Pāpalaua to Shaw will reopen to vehicular traffic
While the stretch from Dickenson to Shaw streets has restricted access from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to facilitate operations at Lahaina Small Boat Harbor. Beginning Aug. 1, Pāpalaua to Shaw will reopen to vehicular traffic, with no regularly restricted hours. In addition, Dickenson and Prison streets will be reopened.
Market Street, Papelekane Street and Mokuhinia Place will remain closed due to ongoing work, including the state’s dredging of Lahaina Harbor.
Mayor Richard Bissen said. “The reopening of Front Street marks the return of commercial activity to the heart of our town, with ʻUlu o Lele Marketplace, the iconic Kimo’s restaurant and more than a dozen other businesses moving forward as part of Lahaina’s recovery. While there is still much work ahead, this is a pivotal step that reflects the steady progress our community has made together.”

Maui County hosted a community blessing on Wednesday, July 1, to celebrate the completion of the Front Street Railing and Walkway Project for the 700 block of Front Street which is famous as the location of Cheeseburger in Paradise and the area in front of Fleetwood's restaurant.

Opening in September, this interim marketplace planned for the former Outlets of Maui site will be the first project to bring storefronts back to Front Street since 2023. The marketplace will include 17 retail units and eight food trucks, along with a stage for nightly entertainment.

The Lahaina Restoration Foundation’s (LRF) Historic Building Restoration Master Plan is complete. Estimated total cost to rebuild eight historic properties to be approximately $40 million over 7 years.
